All My Home School Ex’s Live in Texas

Posted in Aviation News

That title comes from a George Strait song, “All my Ex’s Live in Texas” which was released in 1987.  However, I don’t actually have any Ex’s in Texas.  Though I lived in the Lone Star State for over a year while learning to fly jets, I did not have a wife or even date anyone seriously during that time.

But Texas does have a great tradition in the Aviation Arena.  Dyess AFB in Abilene Texas has been the home to the C-130 and the B-1 Bomber, many a young pilot has been trained down on the Mexican border at Laughlin AFB, while international students are trained alongside US students at Euro NATO Undergraduate Pilot Training in Wichita Falls, TX.  Due to the influence of first Senator and then Vice President Lyndon Johnson, NASA Johnson Space Center is located in Houston. (Hence the phrase, “Houston, we have problem” as uttered from Apollo XIII)

Off to Texas I go!  I am happy to be jumping on an airplane tomorrow to be flying down to the Great Home School Convention in Ft. Worth.  I hope to meet many of you there.  I will also be speaking about attending a service academy.
